Finance Committee · Meeting of March 4, 2026
Rockland Finance Committee examines $38.2 million school budget with $1.67 million shortfall. Superintendent Dr. Alan Cron outlined 13 direct layoffs, 12 non-backfilled vacancies, and 10 involuntary teacher transfers to close the gap, with unemployment insurance costs surging 334 percent to $239,000 and the district cutting instructional supplies by 30 percent and professional development by 18 percent.
The School Department will rely on $2.37 million in state Circuit Breaker reimbursement and $500,000 in free cash to offset the deficit while maintaining all AP and college prep courses and core curriculum rollouts. Parks Director Justin Bodio reported a 10.71 percent budget decrease and an early proposal to fund a 19-hour assistant through a new revolving fund generated from increased field rental revenue, now at $22,000 annually.
